Trip to Georgia

Whenever it comes down to booking a holiday, I tend to gravitate towards a beach destination or very rarely, a city. This time I decided to do something a little different…. like -13 type of different.
So, Georgia it was! My partner and I planned for just a three-day trip over the weekend to relax in a different environment. The flight from Dubai is only 3 hours and 30 minutes, so a weekend trip is totally doable, incase you were wondering.
We heard a lot about the Rooms Hotel Kazbegi which is about a 3 hour drive from Tbilisi, where you can experience beautiful mountain views. So of course we had to check it out for ourselves.
Rooms Hotel Kazbegi is located in Stepantsminda (known as Kazbegi) in the Greater Caucasus. This is where travelers, including the locals, go to enjoy some of the best mountain views in Georgia. The hotel is great during the winter and it is especially popular for those who want to make the trek to Gergeti Trinity Church.

When we arrived to Tibilisi, we had to hangout at the Rooms Hotel Tbilisi for a few hours until the roads to Kazbegi opened up, due to heavy snow. This added to the whole trip, as we got the chance to experience both hotels and explore a little bit of Tbilisi in the meantime. We went for a walk around town and it really felt like such a lively city with all the street performances. We came across a small street that had a strip or restaurants and bars, so we chose one at random to take a mini break and have some snacks before we headed back to the hotel.
After our little Tbilisi adventure and the roads to the mountains opened, we jumped in to the car with our pre-booked driver and off we went. We finally made it to Kazbegi and I was in love with the hotel the moment I walked in. The hotel design, ambience and views are exceptional! The Rooms Hotels, which are part of the Design Hotels family, is beautiful in every way. There is artwork all throughout the public areas, the lobby is super cozy with a library, shelves of books lining the walls, a fire place and ceiling to floor windows with views of the mountains. The hotel has a mountain cabin feel to it with lots of light-colored woods, leather chairs, antler chandeliers, and cozy fireplaces.
I would definitely say that a mountain view room is worth it – waking up to such a view is super dreamy!
Like i said, this holiday was mainly to relax, so we didn’t plan any tours, we literally hung out at the hotel, played in the snow (I felt like a kid again) and adventured around town. This place is perfect for couples or families that just want to relax.
One of my favourite parts of the hotel was the heated pool area that also had a mountain view. It felt like a spa where families and couples would go to unwind. However, the thing that I disliked was the fact that it would get noisy at times as kids would be jumping and running around the pool unaccompanied, which takes away from the relaxing factor. But if you go either early morning or later in the evening, then you can catch some piece and quite. I also felt that the pool could be a little more warmer.

Now let’s talk about food. Their food was scrumptious. We tried quite a few dishes in the few days that we stayed there and every single meal was amazing. I have included some pictures below of some of the dishes I had (sorry, I forgot to take pictures of every dish, I must have been too hungry). The breakfast was also probably one of the best hotel breakfasts I have ever had: it was a buffet with cheese, cold cuts, eggs, breads… you name it, and of course a glass of bubbly to start your day! The great things is, Georgians are late risers, which means breakfast is served until late (up until around 11am) if you are the type that likes a few extra hours of sleep in the morning.

The hotel vibe is what I loved the most because everyone was lounging in the lobby, playing board games, cards and reading books while having dinner. I am so used to seeing people on their phones these days instead of speaking to each other, so this experience really made me smile. The exterior of the hotel is also very pretty and they have a terrace that looks out to the mountains with heating pods.

We did have a little bit of an unfortunate experience when we were meant to return back to Dubai. The roads had unfortunately closed due to the weather conditions and therefore we had to re-book our flights and stay another night at the hotel (they gave us a 30% discount).
Despite that, I would totally recommend you visit Georgia, it was such an incredible experience and the hotel is phenomenal - more so during the winter. But I would probably recommend purchasing a changeable ticket just to be on the safe side.
Tips
Most Georgian’s don’t speak English, however the hotel receptionists do and are super helpful
Book a driver in advance as it will be way cheaper than booking from the hotel or airport (we booked ours here)
Pack warm clothes (thermals) during the winter
Hope this gave you an idea about the location and experience. Let me know if you have any questions and I will be happy to help!
